Goals are road maps that guide us and show us what is possible in life. They make us fall more in love with our lives and ourselves.
If you don’t know how to set goals. Let me rephrase, if you don’t know how to properly set goals that you will actually achieve. You will miss out on being guided by your goals and on falling more in love with your life and yourself.
I have heard all the advice on how to set goals. Break down your goals into small actionable steps, be realistic, make a deadline. I have heard it all. In my hearing it all I have found the best piece of advice to be this one :
The person that you are when setting your goals is exactly the same person that you will be when working towards them.
Let that sink in for a bit.
When setting goals we tend to be too ambitious. We picture our future self to be this amazing person who has infinite energy and motivation. They are super productive and they never get tired, bored or unmotivated. This leads us to set goals for this ideal person that we have in our heads rather than ourselves. We then set goals like, meditate for two hours daily when we have never sat our butts down to meditate before.
The next time you set goals (which should be pretty soon because it’s midyear, duh!!) You should set goals for yourself, not for your ideal self but for your current self.
Setting goals for yourself also means making sure that your goals align with your values and with who you are as a person.
An article about goal setting is never complete without a cheesy quote so here you go :
“If you want to live a happy life tie it to a goal, not to people or things.“

Love your conversational style and your unique take on a regular topic. And it’s great to reflect on who we are before we set grand goals that our current selves may not necessarily be equipped to achieve. Thanks for sharing!
