What is a writer and when can you start calling yourself one??
Honestly, I don’t know what qualifies a person to be called a writer or an author so let me consult my dictionary real quick.
According to Oxford dictionary :
A writer is a person who has written something or who writes in a particular way.
Sounds too simple. I mean with this definition everybody qualifies to be called a writer. We have all written something at one point in our lives, be it a love letter, essay, short story, a novel, an article, a blog post or all of them.
Let’s consult Wikipedia then :
A writer is a person who uses words in different styles and techniques to communicate ideas.
Okay now we are getting somewhere.
I use words in different styles and techniques to communicate ideas. This is why I am here, this is why I am writing this blog post, this is why I started this blog. No, not to use words in a different styles but to communicate ideas and build a relationship with you.
I have been writing all my life. I have written short stories, poetry, songs (don’t ask), blog posts, articles, essays and recently a screenplay.
This is just the first time that I have written for an audience (love you guys) and so far it’s been amazing.
What is not amazing though is the fact that I’m not comfortable calling myself a writer even though I use words to share ideas with you guys.
I feel like if I would say that people would just laugh at me or something.
So am I good enough to call myself a writer??
Hard as it is to admit but that was the real underlying question.
The answer is yes, yes I am good enough to call myself a writer.
At this point writing is more than a hobby to me, it’s a passion (says the girl who disappeared for a whole month).
I’m sure at this point you are wondering why the heck is this blog post for. Don’t worry you are not alone, I am also wondering why I am writing this.
Thank you so much reading my love. I love you, okay❤️❤️❤️
Please share your experience with the whole writer identity on the comments below, I would love to hear it.
